Chanel FW25 Show: Runway Recap, Key Trends & Where To Shop Chanel Secondhand

Chanel FW25 show: Blazy gives us Tulle and Tweed, the unlikely duo we didn’t know we needed, and proves that bow-mania isn’t going anywhere.

Deep in the heart of the Grand Palais in Paris, a ribbon, elegantly poised, rises from the ground, capturing the essence of the graceful and exquisitely delicate looks that marked Chanel’s FW25 show. Heralding the debut of the house’s new artistic director, Matthieu Blazy (former Bottega Veneta), and perhaps also a more dynamic and experimental take on the brand, tulle and tweed dominated the runway, transforming Chanel’s most iconic signatures into something entirely new.

"Coquette-core" was the term that came to mind as we watched models, adorned with crossbody pearl bags, tulle ruffs, and oversized bows, float down the bright and airy runway. Alongside the monochromatic looks, there was no shortage of pastel raspberry pinks and mint greens—hues that will be perfect for brightening up the dark days of next year’s winter.

The cap-toed sock boot Chanel is so famous for had its time to shine, adding edge to some of the sweeter ensembles. So did the classic CC sautoirs, many of which were exaggeratedly enlarged, creating a fun visual and proportional contrast alongside the delicate materials.

It’s no surprise that this show was a crowd-pleaser, considering the recent success of designers like Simone Rocha and Sandy Liang, particularly in the social media zeitgeist. Unapologetic girliness is having its moment, and it's heartening to see so many women owning it and wanting to emulate it. Chanel is, of course, known for its revolutionary approach to women’s fashion, having always focused on producing functional, liberating, yet simultaneously elegant fashion for the modern woman.

But that’s not to say the show didn’t break boundaries. The skirt-over-trouser trend, first made famous in the 2000s and recently reclaimed by TikTok fashionistas, also made its way onto the runway on Tuesday, creating interesting silhouettes that keep you extra warm, too. The fabulous blue denim-to-organza look also proved that jeans can be just as delicate as lace when tailored properly and blended with an unexpected fabric. Maximalism was clearly another modus operandi of the collection, even exaggerating many of the delicate, coquette motifs, as seen in the pussybows that covered the necklines of many of the dresses. Especially lovely were also the bows peeking out from the top of many of the model’s calf-boots.

Seeing as radical femininity is having such a moment, now seems to be the perfect time for Blazy to step in and prove to the fashion world that this is Chanel’s legacy and that nobody does it better. He certainly has big things to prove when his first show arrives in October 2025, and we can’t wait to see what he does.
