SPRING SUMMER FASHION TRENDS ss18: KEY ITEMS Part 3/4.

Posted on

In the third of this four-part series, I look at the key pieces that you can look to invest in for Spring / Summer 2018. This video is a forecast based off some WGSN talks that I attended earlier in the year. Read the blog below.

Key pieces are derived from the SS18 catwalks. These include the fail-safe dress which although being popular in a mini length is slowly being crept up on by the midi. There is a movement towards more practical dressing so two part dresses which can also be worn separately have also been seen across the catwalks for this season.

Another key piece that has remained from Spring / Summer 2017 was the duster coat which again highlights the movement towards more versatile pieces. As this can be worn as both a dress or a coat.

After the dress, the next key piece for the season is highlighted as the blazer. These came down the catwalks in all styles. Worn casually over a dress in a more bomber jacket style as at Valentino SS18 to being worn as a full on "blazer dress" as seen at Versace SS18.

Beyond this, separates were also very popular so either tops and skirts, or tops and trousers. Whilst jeans remained skinny, trousers are moving towards a wider leg. Ruffles and paper bag waists were seen universally across all separates.

Tops featured angel wing sleeves and draw string elements. The wrap blouse was particularly strong.
